The name of the game is giving

'They are all words starting with a c,' said Devin Kwan Chun-yue, 12, as he tried again to get his mouth around the tongue-twister presented to him by teacher William Ryan at the English Fun Day at St Paul's College.

With word games and tongue twisters, the boys collected stamps that were then swapped for balloons and St Paul's College stickers marking the school's 155th anniversary this year. The day was a fundraiser for Operation Santa Claus.

About 190 Form One students were involved in the fundraising day this year - a chance to play games and practise their English. The students could buy food prepared by parents, as well as pencil cases, games and other fun things, again provided by parents.

Last year HK$5,000 was raised. This year it was likely to be HK$6,000, English teacher and organiser Emily Chan Lai-kuen said. 'The children know a little about Operation Santa Claus but aren't always clear about it.'

Adrian Ng, 17, a Form Six student and chairman of the English Society, said: 'Throughout the day classes are brought in for the students to have fun. They can take part in the tongue-twister, poetry reading and Christmas songs.'

Ms Chan said: 'For us it's a way to get the students to learn English in another way rather than just the traditional one.'
