Feline fascination makes stars of Lantau's cats

Long before Lantau became home to the world's most famous mouse, cats roamed the land and now the ubiquitous village moggies of the island have been immortalised in images ready to hang on a wall near you.

Long-time Lantau resident Eric Spain has been shooting photogenic felines for years and has compiled his 13 favourite shots in a Village Cats 2007 calendar - one for each month and one on the cover.

'These are real, working-class cats in their real habitat doing good work such as catching rats and chasing dogs. None of the upper-class chocolate box stuff!' Mr Spain said.

The calendar, which includes both feral and domestic cats, sells for HK$45 and part of the proceeds is being donated to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The calendar is available at shops in Mui Wo and also at Bookazine throughout Hong Kong.
