Members of a Police Tactical Unit team sweat and strain as they haul a 9.5-tonne Saxon armoured vehicle across the tarmac at the unit's headquarters in Fanling.

The extreme exercises were part of annual fund-raising efforts by the teams that have brought in more than HK$73,000 this year for Operation Santa Claus. The event has become the favourite team-building component of the PTU training calendar and is supported by sub-sections of the emergency force.

Deputy Commandant Duncan McCosh began the competition, a series of physical and mental challenges, with the 'Saxon Pull'. Teams of eight officers competed in pulling the Saxon armoured vehicle across the drill square.

It was followed by the 'Miraculous Chemist', a game to test the officers' intelligence, and a simulated combat game among officers.
