Calendar to have ferry fans piering at the past
with Norma Connolly
If you're desperately missing the old Star Ferry pier in Central, just wait until June when it makes a comeback - in the government's own calendar.
The government may not have appreciated the old Star Ferry pier in Central, as it seemed to demonstrate by demolishing it in the face of vocal public opposition, but it appears to value it sufficiently to include it in its 2007 calendar.
The picture of a delivery of newspapers in the early hours of the morning at the old ferry site was meant to highlight the diversity and strength of Hong Kong's newspaper and magazine industries, but is more likely to be pored over by those pining for the old building. The calendar, which mostly features scenes of buildings and infrastructure such as roads and motorways, has also departed from the norm with its January offering - a group of pretty girls dressed in 'I [heart] Hong Kong' T-shirts and pink bunny ears at the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens, which are held in March.
