Elderly homeless warned of impending cold snap

The Social Welfare Department yesterday reminded the homeless elderly to take precautionary measures because cold weather is forecast for the weekend. Those in need can call the department's hotline, 2343 2255. The Home Affairs Department opened 10 temporary shelters last night for people needing refuge, who can call the Emergency Co-ordination Centre on 2835 1473.

security guard arrested

A security guard was arrested for attempting to burgle the apartment of assistant horse trainer Raymond Tsui Kwai-leung at the Jockey Club's staff quarters in Sha Tin yesterday. The suspect, 29, was inside the main bedroom of the Tai Po Road flat when Mr Tsui, 49, and his wife returned home at 1.40am.
