Name: Derek Lee Tak-man

School: Church of Christ in China Tam Lee Lai Fun Memorial Secondary School

Grade: Form Three

Sport: Tenpin Bowling

Achievements: In 2005 to 2006, Derek, 15, represented Hong Kong four times - twice at the Asian School Tenpin Bowling Championships (under 18) in Indonesia and Thailand, and twice at the Asian Intercity Tenpin Bowling Championship held in Indonesia and Guam.

Soundbite: 'I became interested in the sport when my parents took me to a bowling alley when I was four.

I became serious about the sport when I was 10 and asked to take lessons. I love this sport and practice three times a week. I want to go pro and take part in the Asian Games eventually.'

From his coach: 'We discovered Derek's talents two years ago when he was 13. At such a young age, he already seemed to have the necessary techniques to play well - speed and ball spin. And he's a very fast learner,' says bowling coach Andrew Fung Chi-san.

Fung, who works with the Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress and Hong Kong Sports Institute, adds 'He has the potential to go pro, but right now, school work has been interfering with his practice. Hopefully, he will achieve a balance.'

Ambitions: Derek will be working hard to improve his skills in the next six months. He has to gear up for the Asian School Tenpin Bowling Championships, which will be in Vietnam in June, and the Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships (under 21s) at Beijing in July.
