Designer dazzles with diamonds

Donald Tsang

Diamonds are a politician's best friend. Not quite sure who was in charge of the government on Tuesday evening as all the senior bods were at the opening of the new luxurious boutique of Carnet in Prince's Building in Central.

Some 200 VIPs joined the cocktail reception to celebrate with Michelle Ong Cheung, creator of the stunningly detailed jewellery, and her business partner Avi Nagar. Guests included Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen and his wife Selina Tsang Pou Siu-mei, Timothy Fok Tsun-ting, president of the Hong Kong Sports Federation and Olympic Committee, and Tourism Board chairwoman Selina Chow Liang Shuk-yee, who is a Carnet client.

Other faces in the glare of the paparazzi were Wendy Kwok Tin-wing, wife of Sun Hung Kai Properties boss Raymond Kwok Ping-luen, and Aids Concern chairman Andrew Yuen Wai-man.

Top model Mikki Yao (left) wore a floral-motif choker studded with diamonds and multicoloured precious gems. Made in platinum and titanium, the breathtaking design took four years to craft. Ms Ong (centre) evidently has a lot of patience. 'It's detail, detail, detail,' said Ms Ong, of the jewellery with flower, butterfly and Chinese motifs. Model Kseniya (right) is wearing a rose-cut diamond ensemble of more than 60 carats.
