United to fly Washington-Beijing
The first direct flight between the capital cities of the United States and China will be launched by United Airlines within 90 days, according to the US carrier.
The daily service, using the 347-seat Boeing 747-400, would start on or before March 25, flying between Dulles International Airport and Beijing Capital International Airport, United said yesterday.
Washington, with eight million residents, is the largest market in the US without a non-stop service to China. Some 68,000 District of Columbia residents travelled to the mainland in 2005.
No mainland carrier has yet expressed interest to fly the route.
