30 million milestone

The Hong Kong Central Library set a new milestone by welcoming its 30 millionth reader earlier this month.

The 12-storey library in Causeway Bay, which was opened in 2001 and is packed with literary and recreational material, is a haven for the city's book-lovers.

Wan Kin-sang was the lucky reader who had the honour to be part of a memorable moment.

A frequent visitor to the library, Mr Wan enjoys reading and chilling out in its spacious surroundings.

'Detective fiction is my favourite. I also use the resources in the library, such as computers and reference books, for my school work,' said the accounting student from Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

'The Central Library is a cosy and relaxing place. I enjoy staying there.'

To celebrate the special occasion, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services Thomas Chow presented Mr Wan with a certificate and souvenir.

The library has held numerous seminars and exhibitions to promote culture and the arts among locals.
