the prize of beauty

Penny Hunter

Makers of beauty products have long sought to unearth the fountain of youth. With the launch of what must be one of the most expensive treatments available, one brand claims to be within reach of the holy grail of anti-ageing. ReVive Skincare's Peau Magnifique is a treatment the company says can turn back your skin's clock five years and save you from the plastic surgeon's knife. It uses an enzyme called telomerase, which is said to convert 'resting adult stem cells to newly minted skin cells' and which has been the subject of research into cancer and heart disease. The 'indelible and life-changing' results of using the product are reportedly a 45 per cent reduction in wrinkles and smoother, more even skin tone. The beauty regimen requires users to apply a one-pump dose of the formula to the face each evening for four weeks. But only cosmetics junkies with deep pockets need apply - a month's supply of Peau Magnifique costs HK$11,000. Fortunately, the treatment is necessary only twice a year.

ReVive Skincare's Peau Magnifique will be available from Joyce Beauty boutiques (tel: 2869 5816) by the end of next month.
