Mascara

Mascara makes eyes look bigger. If you have oily skin, pat some loose powder under the eyes before applying to prevent smudging. Then apply it in a zig-zagging, back and forth motion to cut down on clumping.

Lola the Ultimate Mascara (HK$210)

It passed the non-flaky test with flying colours and it does have staying power, but wasn't convinced with the wand applicator.

Helena Rubinstein Lash Queen Waterproof Mascara (HK$250)

It lengthens and thickens the lashes from root to tip without clumping and lasts all day. A great treat for oily skin or those who fancy a dramatic effect.

Lancome L'Extreme WP (H$220)

The mascara doesn't brush on easily. It takes quite a few strokes just to get a thin layer on the eyelashes. But its lengthening effect is impressive. But it smears easily if you have oily skin.

Shu Uemura Waterproof Precise Volume Mascara (HK$220)

This enriched formula slightly curls lashes and adds plenty of volume. Long-lasting and doesn't smudge, but easily removed with makeup remover.

Nars Waterproof Mascara (HK$200)

This glides onto lashes very easily, but the bristles on the brush are spaced too far apart. Extra coats are needed for the mascara to be visible. Lashes needed to be re-curled after application. Rayonner mascara (HK$90)

This noticeably thickened lashes with just one sweep. However, it tends to start crumbling, leaving black flecks under your eyes. You can get a more reliable mascara for the same price or less at Mannings or Watsons.
