Preserve our historical buildings

Historical buildings represent the memories of all citizens in Hong Kong. Many stories have taken place in these buildings.

The government often says that for the well-being of Hong Kong and its future development, old buildings need to be destroyed.

This is because there are millions of people in Hong Kong, but only a small percentage of the land is suitable to be built upon.

But memories are the evidence of the past, and we need to preserve them.

Hong Kong citizens do not know enough about their history. Buildings can tell us these tales.

History is the evidence of living of life.

Sport is essential for a healthy life

Exercise is important. Many children around the world do not do any exercise, or do less than 30 minutes a day.

Sport is a good way of exercising. In sports events, athletes run, leap through the air, and lifts weights.

Tennis players smash balls across the net, and football players make touchdowns or receive penalties.

These are just some of the exciting things you can see when you go to the gym or stadium.

The purpose of these games is to beat others and win awards or prizes.

But sport is not only about competing or winning. It is also about having fun and improving our health.

We should exercise often - at least three to five times a week, for about 30 minutes each time.

This does not include physical education lessons at school.

Exercise can result in increased strength, loss of weight, and a healthier mind, and it can help us fight disease.

We should also eat proper meals and watch our diet.

Find a sport that you like, enjoy it, and play it often. By doing so, you will lead a happier, healthier life.

Don't judge a person by their job

When I was young, I wanted to be a cook. I wanted to cook a wide variety of delicious cuisine for my customers.

I imagined them appreciating my cooking skills, and my parents being proud because they have a good daughter like me.

But, my parents don't want me to be a cook as the job does not have good prospects, salary or status.

But I don't think your job defines who you are. Being wealthy doesn't mean you deserve respect.

All jobs are equal - imagine how awful public toilets would be without someone employed to clean them.

We should not look down on people if they have what is considered a 'lowly' job. We should respect all people.

Shocking story

A dead baby girl was found in a river in Sheung Shui River recently. That's terrible news.

I think most people would blame the mother for the girl's death.

But what about the mother's condition? She may have had financial problems.

She may have had too much work and too little time to take care of the baby.

But whatever was happening in the mother's life, she should have taken responsibility for the child.

There is nothing in this world that cannot be solved.

A mother should always be with her children; they are connected.

Make sure to treat your mother well. A good relationship your parents now implies that you will be a good parent in the future.

Treasure time spent with your family

Family is important, because they support us through difficult and happy times.

But some people vent their anger on their families. They shout and hurt their spouses or children.

This not only hurts their body, but also damages their heart.

If children have to deal with violence or abuse, they may have a darkness deep in their heart.

They may not trust other people anymore, and it may affect their personal growth.

If we have pressure or problems, we should talk to our family members.

Family is important; everyone needs their family, so treasure yours.

Right to build your own utopia

Everyone has his or her own idea of utopia. This word comes from the Renaissance. It means 'perfect country'.

As time passes, the meaning of utopia changes.

Nowadays, many people live in crowded cities and they all work hard to make a living.

Some of them work 10 hours or more, and are stressed and melancholic.

Our city is very noisy and dirty. We have many problems, for example, air, water and noise pollution.

I think in utopia, those problems should have been solved by the government.

If a government is able, the citizens will live happily and harmoniously.

How can we have a good government? Basically, we should have the right to vote for the chief executive of our choice.

We can then enjoy more rights for liberty, property ownership and healthy living than we do now.

Life is fragile

I noticed a shocking news report on the internet recently. A Taiwanese artist was killed in a car accident.

A truck collided with the Mini Cooper that she and her assistant were travelling in. She was seriously hurt and in a coma for a few days and eventually passed away.

The report made me reflect on life: Life is so frail, we must treasure it.

Some people want to achieve lots of things in their life, while others give up their life so easily.

Labels must be exact

For a while, the public thought food safety standards had improved.

But towards the end of last month, there was more news of bad food.

Customers complained of diarrhoea after eating fish labelled as codfish. It turned out that the fish was actually oilfish, a cheaper fish.

This incident teaches us the necessity of precise labelling. Many consumers

were misled. The government must ensure food labels are accurate.

Try your best

The public exams confronting many Form Seven students are getting close and I am getting more and more stressed.

I do not feel ready for the A-Level exams.

Even so, compared with the CE exam, I have a clearer picture of what my goal is this time.

Having a goal can motivate you to keep going.

No matter how steep the road is I will endeavour to accomplish my task.

At least, then, I can say that I have tried.
