Run for your life

A group of budding long-distance athletes set off on a circuit of the track at Hong Kong University's Stanley Ho Sports Centre yesterday. The youngsters were taking part in 'Marathon 101 PE Day', one of a series of initiatives backed by the sponsor of next month's Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon and aimed at reinforcing awareness of the importance of an active lifestyle.

Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association coaches Lai Chun-hung and Leung Tat-wai, the Hong Kong 400-metre and 800-metre record holder, were among nine coaches who conducted a session for 230 children on training and preparation for long-distance running. 'This is an excellent initiative ... and something that I wish had been available when I was in school,' said Leung.
