Sandwich provide alternative fare to feed the fans

Among the tourists visiting the city over the Lunar New Year were the members of probably Manila's biggest alt-rock band, Sandwich. The group played a surprise free show last night at the Wanch for a raucous group of fans obviously tired of the traditional sounds. The loud and edgy quintet is considered something of a super-group in the Philippines' burgeoning music scene.

'The lead singer, Raymond Marasigan, used to be in a band called Eraserheads, which was probably one of the most well-known groups in the Philippines,' said their de facto local promoter, Ahmad Coo. 'They called me up a few weeks ago and said, 'Hey, we're going to be in Hong Kong for a short break. Can you set something up for us'?'

Maybe they can give us a bit more warning next time.
