Little piggies bring cheer

Creative works by aspiring young artists have added colour to Lunar New Year displays near Harbour City in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Dozens of artists aged five to 17 from Creativekids, a local arts workshop, have come up with installations and drawings on the theme of piglets.

Using their imagination and unconventional drawing techniques, the young artists created artworks to celebrate the Year of the Pig.

There are 12 three-dimensional artworks on display along Canton Road near Harbour City.

In different poses and attire, the pigs aim to bring festive cheer to passers-by over Lunar New Year.

The young artists have also produced piggy paintings about traditional Chinese customs.

Among them is a calligraphic work which shows how the Chinese character for 'pig' has changed over the centuries.

Both ancient hieroglyphic and modern cursive characters are featured.

An auspicious picture featuring hundreds of little piggies is another highlight of the exhibition.

It emphasises the fact that ancient Chinese loved big families and had many children.

A painting of pigs staging a kung fu performance is also on display.

The exhibition runs until next Wednesday.

The paintings are on display in a makeshift gallery on the ground floor of Ocean Terminal (near Panash Bakery & Cafe).
