Bird-watch for charity

A bird-watching competition aimed at promoting conservation work will be held next month.

On March 11, participants in the Mini-Race Bird-watching Competition will be able to visit the normally off-limits Mai Po Nature Reserve area and watch migratory birds.

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has organised the Big Bird Race, a charity event for experienced bird-watchers, for 23 years. The event raises funds for conservation work and education programmes.

The mini-race gives youngsters a chance to develop bird-watching skills.

The race is divided into three sections: Open, Youth and Junior. In groups of three to five members, competitors have to record as many wild bird species as possible within a designated area during the four-hour race.

The team that records the highest number of bird species will be given the Most Birds Seen Award.

Each participant in the Youth and Junior groups has to raise at least HK$300 to join the race.

Competition information and enrolment forms can be downloaded at www.wwf.org.hk

Completed forms and donations should be sent to WWF no later than March 1. For enquiries, call 2523 2316.
