Model for courage and willpower

Mary Luk

When Mingi Yeung Wai-ming was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 she worried she would never finish her Master of Business Administration (MBA) in finance.

Although she had spent two years on the course, she realised that her health was more important than anything else, so she suspended her work and studies to undergo an operation and chemotherapy.

'My husband and I did considerable research and realised that provided I received early treatment, my cancer was 100 per cent curable.'

After six months of painful treatment she returned to work and began writing her MBA thesis. While it normally takes a student three years to finish the degree, Ms Yeung needed an extra year. She finally completed the programme last year through the Manchester Business School.

Now manager of cash clearing operations at Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing, Ms Yeung was nominated chairwoman of the Manchester Business School's alumni association (2006-2007) for

the Hong Kong region in honour of her 'indomitable spirit'.
