Raw oyster sales halted after norovirus outbreak

The Centre for Food Safety yesterday ordered a halt to sales of raw oysters from San Antonio Bay, Texas, following a US Food and Drug Administration report of a norovirus outbreak among consumers. The distributor issued a voluntary recall of the suspect batch, tagged 'Gal 1, 2/2/07'. The centre advised the elderly, children, pregnant women and people with poor immunity to avoid eating high-risk foods like raw oysters.

policeman suspended over theft of wallet

An alleged theft by a police officer at Hung Hom division on Friday was 'an individual case', police chief Tang King-shing said. The case was being investigated and the suspected officer had been suspended and released on bail. The officer allegedly took a wallet containing at least HK$500. The wallet was later found at his police hostel.

The Immigration Department said people intending to travel abroad over Easter should apply for travel documents as early as possible. The department expects a surge of departures during the holiday and said travellers should apply for passports in advance to avoid a last-minute rush.

man hurt in shek o fall

A man was flown to hospital by helicopter after he fell while climbing a cliff near Shek O Headland Road at about 5.30pm. He was being treated last night at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital for head and leg injuries.

quarrel ends in death

A 19-year-old man jumped to his death after quarrelling with his family in Shau Kei Wan. Police said the man, surnamed Ng, was found on a podium under his Ming Wah Dai Ha home at 12.30am.
