HR director to supervise team in Asia-Pacific

A prominent US-based company with famous retail brand names among its clients is looking for an assertive and results-oriented professional to lead the HR function in Asia.

A regional human resources director is being recruited by aimHigher Consultancy for a client who wishes to remain confidential. Candidates should be professionals with 10 to 12 years of experience who will work with management to plan and deliver the organisation's strategy and key HR initiatives in the Asia-Pacific region.

'During the past several years, our client has been transforming the company to be more competitive in the market, executing a number of business turnaround strategies that have resulted in significant improvements in [the firm's] performance,' said aimHigher Consultancy manager Joseph Oei.

The company has revamped the entire process of how it develops, delivers and markets products. 'As a result of this our client has stabilised sales and substantially improved the profitability of the company.'

Reporting to the vice-president of human resources for Asia-Pacific and the global human resources director for the US, the incumbent will supervise a team of six human resources professionals across the region.

'The human resources director is critical to the success of the organisation because [the person] will be involved as a business partner in the creation of a business process strategy,' Mr Oei said.

This senior role will focus on establishing a stable and strong management team that provides leadership and enables the achievement of the business vision, mission and goals. Coaching senior management on people management issues is another aspect of the job and the ability to collaborate with people at all levels is of the utmost importance.

With sales in more than 110 countries and more than 10,000 staff, the incumbent will be valued for the ability to maintain an organisational culture in which people are externally focused, responsive, innovative and collaborative. The goal is to support a workforce that can quickly and proactively respond to changing business needs.

Daily activities will revolve around developing and delivering strategic and operational HR services in talent management, compensation and benefits, learning and organisational development and employee relations.

The ideal candidate will have a degree or equivalent in human resources, psychology or business administration. Candidates with hands-on experience with local HR issues across the region will have an advantage. Interviewers will also be looking for someone with a good business acumen at operational and strategic level, and who thrives under pressure. A fair amount of travel across Asia-Pacific will be expected and the company can provide career development opportunities across the region.
