French fabric house Manuel Canovas has left behind the Gunga Din-style animal patterns of previous years to present a range of fabrics that are nevertheless exotic, such as the Madison (below; HK$1,170 a metre), a bold leaf print. Asian-influenced prints include Shanghai (HK$1,890), a silk jacquard with exuberant peonies; Mai (HK$1,730), which borrows from traditional ikat; and Osaka (HK$1,010), an organza that brings to mind wave-sculpted sand. African influences also lend allure, with Caravane (HK$2,040) featuring abstract arabesques.
