Where? Previously located in San Francisco's Russian Hill, Dylan recently relocated to the city's affluent Marina District. This neighbourhood was once home to the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition, which was staged to celebrate the completion of the Panama Canal and the city's comeback after the 1906 earthquake. The area also houses the historical Palace of Fine Arts.

Who? The boutique is owned by Sara Pollan and Stephanie Unger. Pollan was a buyer for two other

well-known San Francisco boutiques before opening Dylan with Unger in November last year.

Dylan carries a selection of handbags, hats, sunglasses, jewellery and lingerie by hip brands such as Botkier, Hanky Panky, Kaviar and Kind, Stella McCartney and Eugenia Kim. Footwear is by Chloe, Carmen Ho, French Sole, Marc Jacobs and Tara Subkoff for Easy Spirit, among others. There is also a range of carefully selected vintage items and the boutique recently started stocking menswear from the likes of Paul Smith and Steven Alan.

The vibe: understated and pretty, this cosy boutique features dark wood-panelled floors, crystal chandeliers and Louis XIV-style settees. Racks of jewel-toned silk blouses, billowing cocktail dresses and separates sit next to stacks of denim and cotton basics. The store was designed to recreate the New York-boutique shopping experience - without the aloof staff.
