New office ... and a new addition

The Asia Art Archive officially opened its new office on Saturday with a welcome brunch for guests and friends. The arts resource centre offers a collection of more than 22,000 items - manuscripts, correspondence, clippings, rare periodicals and art objects. However, for executive director Claire Hsu (below) the most significant addition will be at home. She and husband Benjamin Vuchot are expecting their first child in a few months.

'But I won't be giving up my job, I love it,' the mother-to-be said. 'The team has been here for a long time so I completely trust them. I'll leave it in their hands for a few months when I do have to take time off.'

Despite the archive's birth back in 2000, Ms Hsu reckons the biggest challenge is still to change people's perception of art. 'People still don't think art is very important. People talk about Asia being very materialistic, so we think it's important to educate that art brings a spiritual quality to life.' The new office is at 11/F, Hollywood Centre, 233 Hollywood Road, Sheung Wan.
