Sprinters reign supreme
No new records were set at the Hong Kong Open Athletic Meet 2007 held at the Wan Chai Sports Ground on Sunday.
The competition was organised by the Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association (HKAAA).
Current Hong Kong men's 100-metre record holder, schoolboy Tang Yik-chun, maintained his status as Hong Kong's fastest man by winning the event in a time of 10.60 seconds.
First runner-up, Chiang Wai-hung, finished 13 seconds behind Tang after clocking 10.73.
Leung Ki-ho was second runner-up with a time of 10.79.
Last month, Tang, 20, won the men's 100m and 200m races at the Hong Kong Athletic League 2007.
He clinched the 200m event with a time of 21.44 seconds - 0.5 seconds slower than the current Hong Kong record.
Tang, who last year set a Hong Kong 200m record of 20.94 while still a junior, is now focusing on reaching the standard of the Asian Athletics Championships.
In the women's 100m race on Sunday, most of the Hong Kong athletic squad members worked hard to record impressive results.
Wan Kin-yee won the battle with her main rival, Chan Ho-yee, by eight seconds.
Wan, who recently returned to Hong Kong after a week-long training stint, clocked 12.09 seconds to secure her women's 100m title.
Both competed in the 100m event at the Doha Asian Games in Qatar last year, but failed to impress.
Chan and Leung Hiu-yee took the first and second runner-up positions, clocking 12.17 seconds and 12.37 seconds, respectively.
Surprisingly, the current Hong Kong female 200m record holder, schoolgirl Leung Hau-sze, did not set any new records at Sunday's meet.
