Cowboys and machines

Gun X Sword (TV and DVD)

They might not wear the stereotypical hats in this cowboy/space odyssey anime, but they do have some pretty big guns and a whole lot of mean mechs.

Gun X Sword aired on Japanese channel TV Tokyo in 2005 and has been dubbed into English for Animax. It is set to premiere on March 29 and show every Monday to Friday at 11.30pm (HK time). It is also available on DVD in English from Geneon Entertainment.

Gun X Sword (known to fans as GXS) is a 26-episode original anime produced by AIC (Anime International Company) with character designs by Kimura Takahiro (Godanner) and directed by Taniguchi Goro (Planet ES, Scryed). AIC also produced other great anime including Bubblegum Crash, Girls Bravo, Pumpkin Scissors and Vampire Princess Miyu.

On the planet Endless Illusion, Van is searching for a man with a mechanical claw for a hand. This man killed Van's fiancee Elena on their wedding day, and the image of his dying fiancee in her bloodstained bridal gown still haunts him, driving him to seek revenge.

Still dressed in his tuxedo, Van travels from city to city looking for Elena's killer. He looks like a tramp, and his slow drawl makes people think that he is a simpleton.

Van meets a girl called Wendy Garret who is looking for her brother.

Wendy's brother has been kidnapped by the same claw-handed man. She is determined to find and rescue him, and insists on tagging along with Van. There is nothing he can do to discourage her.

As they journey across the wastelands, they encounter big, bad mechs called 'Armours'. Van has to fight them off with his own armour, Dann of Thursday. This amazing mech is stored in a satellite that orbits the planet.

How did Van get this armour, and where did he find it? And will he and Wendy find the claw-handed man? You'll have to watch the show to find out.
