Really flash

The recent Photo Marketing Association Convention (PMA07) saw dozens of companies introducing hundreds of cameras. One of the models that stands out from the crowd is Sony's DSC-G1 digital camera.

Sony has packed some amazing new features into its 9.3cm x 7.2cm x 2.5cm silver body, starting with a huge 3.5 inch LCD screen with XGA-quality resolution - that's four times higher than most other cameras. While the camera accepts Sony's Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick Duo Pro cards, it packs an amazing amount of RAM inside - two gigabytes, which is enough to hold 600 photos taken at the camera's six megapixel resolution or up to 7,500 photos at VGA resolution.

To top it all off, the DSC-G1 has Sony's new Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) wireless networking, which uses the Wi-fi b/g standards, so you can send photos wirelessly to your computer or share them with friends with similar cameras.

Other features include a Carl Zeiss 3X optical zoom lens and Super Steady Shot, for image stabilisation. Without its battery, it weighs in at 200 grams. The DSC-G1 will be available next month at an expected cost of US$600. It should be widely available in Hong Kong but then again, with all these features, it will probably fly off the shelves.
