Hong Kong on canvas

A local artist is exhibiting some of his paintings to share his views on life and politics in Hong Kong.

Sculptor and painter Choi Cho-kwong gets inspiration for his art from his life experiences.

Having lived in Hong Kong since he was a child, Choi feels strongly about the city's vibrancy.

Some of his paintings portray the city's nightlife.

'Hong Kong's nightlife is dizzying. I tried to convey the desires of nocturnal fun-seekers through my paintings,' said the 50-year-old.

Politics also feature prominently in the exhibition, with several paintings portraying what the artist thinks of local politicians and politics.

Just for Fun, a large painting of dozens of Chinese toddlers huddled together, is Choi's take on local politics.

'Using innocent toddlers to represent local politicians, I want to portray the rather clean image of the local political scene.

'Although legislators bicker all the time over government policies, they seldom resort to dirty tactics like bribery and intimidation,' said Choi.

New Works by Choi Cho-kwong is on from March 31 to April 12 at Unit 12, Cattle Depot Village, 63 Ma Tau Kok Road, Kowloon.
