It's almost as good as being there - just walk across the street

When you can't be in the thick of the heaving crowd inside the stadium but want to be as close to the action as possible, the next best thing is just a drop-kick away.

Literally across the road from the North Stand entrance lies the Sevens Village, which caters to children and family fun by day before turning into party central come nightfall.

Free to enter during the day, the village - a joint venture between the HKRFU and Valley Rugby Club - houses family fun, refreshments and sporting action on a giant screen so that even if you don't have a ticket for the real thing you can enjoy all the excitement of the matches without actually being in the arena. Organisers have likened it to the Henman Hill overspill area at Wimbledon.

The Village also includes two tented areas - the Valley Big Top Party and the Bollinger Champagne Tent - for which there are entry fees.

The children's play zone is complete with assorted toys and video games including Xboxes, PlayStations and assorted Toys R Us items. There are also stalls selling refreshments and rugby paraphernalia.

Then the real party starts as soon as the final whistle blows on the last match of the day at the stadium.

The children's gear is cordoned off and the place is transformed into 'rugby pub village' complete with live musical entertainment.

Many of the main stadium crowd cross the road to continue the partying. Up to 3,000 people can be accommodated.

Night is also when two other subsidiary areas within the village come to life: the Valley Big Top Party and the Bollinger Champagne Tent, which is expected to be sold out despite VIP tables going for HK$9,900 per table of eight.
