The Health Ministry will introduce measures to reduce medical prices and stop overcharging by hospitals.

Vice-Minister for Health Ma Xiaowei said the measures would stress the provision of suitable heath-care services and the relevant prescription of drugs. To prevent overcharging, Mr Ma said the ministry would invite public tenders for the purchase of medical equipment and drugs in all government hospitals to raise the transparency of health-care services.

The ministry will also step up supervision to prevent the abuse of antibiotics, Mr Ma said.
