Donate to the poor and the hungry

Have you ever joined a 30-Hour Famine? Our school's students and teachers take part in a similar activity every year.

We donate HK$20 and get a piece of bread for lunch. This year, our school will make a donation to help cancer patients.

There are millions of people who live in misery around the world. Many of them are from war-torn countries. They do not have enough food and suffer diseases.

Hong Kong people waste food. It is really sad. We should not ignore the less fortunate. Don't pretend you cannot see them!

Your school's 30-Hour Famine is a great idea, Charlotte. Not only does it raise funds for people who need it, it also gives you an insight into how millions of people live their lives every day.

Have you ever looked at the World Food Programme (WFP) website (www.wfp.org)? It provides a lot of information on what parts of the world are most desperate for food and clean water. Every year, the WFP helps more than 90 million people in over 80 countries. They accept donations of money and food such as flour, beans, oil, salt and sugar.

Even though Hong Kong is a rich country, it doesn't feature on the list of 38 countries who donate to the WFP. You could write to the government and ask why.
