Get on your feet fast if you want to join salsa contest

Good news if you've been a step behind in your dance practice. The deadline for registration in the Hong Kong Salsa Championship has been extended to Monday.

The competition will be held on April 16 at the Armani Bar and organisers say there are just two places left. To register, e-mail [email protected]. The winner will be awarded prizes including a chance to perform at the 2007 West Coast Salsa Congress in Los Angeles in May, with air tickets and accommodation provided.

Special performances have been lined up for the night. Dynamic Japanese salsa performers Aki and Yasue Watanabe (pictured right) will showcase their footwork.

Also strutting their stuff will be Italian Antimo Russo and Fanny Yee Wa. If you have two left feet and just want to watch, however, buy your tickets at Armani Bar. The ticket price of HK$180 includes a glass of champagne and snacks. Call 28050028. Incidentally, if you want to hear some Latin jazz tonight, a new local group called Samba Negro is performing at the Blue Door.

The quartet starts at 10.30pm and entry costs only HK$100. The Blue Door is on the fifth floor at 37 Cochrane Street, telephone 28586555.
