Hair food

'You need a lot of protein if you want shiny, healthy hair, because hair is about 90 per cent protein. So, the more you inject into it, the more it's boosted.

'Take essential fatty acids if you want shinier hair. There's a good one called Multi-Oil from GNC stores (HK$200) and it should last about a month. Eating more fish is also good for hair. Red meat, as long as it's not fatty, helps too. You also need a lot of water to boost circulation, but also because hair follicles tend to not produce as much when they're dehydrated.

'Another good supplement is Bioten (HK$80), which strengthens the follicles. Don't use so-called home-remedies such as vinegar and mayonnaise. They can't properly penetrate the cortex of the hair. Mineral oils and olive oils can damage hair because they get lodged in the follicles and can cause hair loss.

'Almond oil is good for shiny hair. Put one to two drops in with your conditioner. It's lightweight, so it won't make your hair feel heavy.'
