A daily average of 5,317 people attended public accident and emergency departments over the Ching Ming and Easter holidays, just 1.7 per cent off the daily average last month of 5,407, the Hospital Authority said. Bucking the trend was Queen Mary Hospital in Pok Fu Lam, which saw a 6.5 per cent upswing to 348 during the holiday, compared to 327 last month. United Christian Hospital in Kwun Tong saw a 1.1 per cent increase to 530, while Caritas Medical Centre rose by 0.6 per cent to 372. Medical Association president Choi Kin said the increase at Queen Mary might be due to the fewer private clinics open during the holiday. Only three clinics in Central, Western and Southern districts, the likely catchment area for Queen Mary, were open during that time, the association said. Eight private clinics were open in Eastern District.
