Changes to maintenance legislation

Fox Yi Hu

Legislation to help divorced women receive maintenance through their former husbands' employers may soon be amended to cover government employees who fail to pay maintenance. An amendment to the Attachment of Income Order would be introduced to the Legislative Council in the 2006-07 session, Deputy Secretary for Home Affairs Donald Tong Chi-keung said. 'The AIO legislation applies to people whose income source is non-government only,' Mr Tong told Legco yesterday. 'If it is not amended, it would lead to unfair situations.'
