What?

Controversy at the World Bank after the bank's president Paul Wolfowitz helps his girlfriend, Shaha Ali Riza, to win a promotion and a big pay rise.

Where?

Where does she work? In the US State Department. She was moved there from the World Bank after her boyfriend, Mr Wolfowitz, was appointed president to avoid any conflict of interest.

When?

When was Shaha Ali Riza promoted? In September 2005.

How?

How much does she earn? US$193,000 a year. That's more than Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's salary! Before the promotion, Shaha Ali Riza was earning close to US$133,000.

Why?

Why did Mr Wolfowitz do that? He said it was a mistake and he has apologised, saying that he has important work to continue in terms of alleviating world poverty. Ironically, he has campaigned against corruption.

Who?

Who is supporting Mr Wolfowitz? Not many people. Only the White House has come out in his favour. The US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said he had 'very high regard' for

Mr Wolfowitz. But staff at the World Bank have called for his resignation.
