Tropical north Queensland is becoming a place in the sun for Hong Kong buyers. Ninety minutes south of Cairns, prestige apartments at Satori Mission Beach (pictured below and right) may be bought off-plan, which allows for foreign investment.

Satori, between the rainforest and the beach, has 135 one-bedroom and two-bedroom homes built around a lagoon-shaped pool. With 200 metres of beach frontage, the development is an ideal hopping off point for Great Barrier Reef islands, including Dunk, Hinchinbrook and Bedarra. Prices range from about A$550,000 (HK$3.48million) to A$1.5million and the selling agent is Mission Beach Real Estate. The firm's principal, Steve Wiltshire, says prices in the Mission Beach area have risen 500 per cent in six years.
