Hong Kong narrowly missed out on a chance to fight for a place in the Fed Cup World Group Two in Christchurch, New Zealand, yesterday. The SAR team defeated Singapore 3-0 in their final pool A match, but the top three finishers - Hong Kong, Uzbekistan and Thailand - had the same number of points from the four ties they each played in their pool (three matches won, one lost). Hong Kong, however, ended up third on a countback of individual matches. Thailand today meet Taiwan in a play-off for promotion to World Group Two.
