Karen Mok's glittering double role helps charity

Karen Mok Man-wai, charity fund-raiser or jewellery designer? How about both. Last year the entertainer agreed to design a collection called i-series for Chow Tai Fook on the condition that part of the proceeds went to noble causes as part of her duty as Unicef ambassador.

'I have a song called Love and love in Mandarin is pronounced as 'I', so I combined the two ideas together and came up with this series,' Mok said at an anniversary ceremony on Friday. 'I donated my fee as designer and Chow Tai Fook also added a significant sum.'

However, she wasn't left reward-less. At the event, she was given a five-carat diamond ring. 'I have never received a diamond ring before, not even from my boyfriend,' Mok joked, in reference to her beau, Stephen Fung Tak-lun. 'This will certainly give him a bit of pressure in choosing presents for me in the future.'

Then on Saturday, Mok was 'co-pilot' to Michael Wong Man-tak (above) at the old Kai Tak airport as he gave some refugee children a helicopter ride. It's the first in a series of events ahead of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees' World Refugee Day on June 20.
