Murdered officer can rest in peace at last
A former commander of Leung Shing-yan said the police constable who sacrificed his life in the line of duty could finally rest in peace.
Bringing a bunch of yellow chrysanthemums, the retired officer, who withheld his full name, visited Leung's grave at Gallant Garden at around 4pm yesterday - just hours after the verdict in the marathon inquest was delivered.
The retired officer observed a minute's silence after carefully placing the flowers in a vase near Leung's tombstone.
'Shing-yan can finally rest in peace, as the inquest has come to an end. We all learned the truth through the court case. It means a lot to Shing-yan,' he said. 'We also learned what had happened to Hang Chai [Tsang Kwok-hang] and the bank security guard.'
The former commander was on duty the day the constable met his end while answering a complaint of noise at a Tsuen Wan housing estate in 2001. He urged the public to support the families of the two police officers and the security guard shot dead by Tsui Po-ko.
'Shing-yan, Hang Chai and the security guard all sacrificed their lives in the performance of their duties. We should offer our support to these three families,' he said.
He also appealed for understanding for Tsui's wife and daughter. 'I think Tsui's wife and her daughter are now facing enormous pressure and they have to overcome many difficulties that lie ahead. I hope we all can give them more understanding and space,' he said.
