Vendor resists armed robbers

A street vendor fought off two armed men who tried to steal his takings in Yuen Long. The pair approached the 31-year-old victim in Yau Tin Road West at about 10.45am offering to sell him a second-hand phone. While the vendor was examining the phone, one of the culprits pulled a knife as the other tried to snatch a bag from his waist. The pair fled empty-handed when the vendor put up a struggle. He was treated for minor neck and hand injuries.

Maid held over baby's bruises

Police arrested a domestic helper for allegedly mistreating her employer's 17-month-old daughter in Yuen Long. Officers were called when the 42-year-old employer found bruises on the toddler's left arm at their Yoho Town flat, in Yau Tin Road East, at about 2.10am. The helper was released on bail pending further investigation. She was told to report back to police on Monday.

Police arrest 18 mainlanders

Police arrested 18 mainlanders for overstaying during a raid on a waste-recycling plant in Hung Lung Hang, Ta Kung Leng, at about 8am. The 15 men and three women, aged 20 to 43, were thought to have been working and sleeping in the plant.

Tourist hit by double-decker

A 23-year-old Swiss tourist was taken to Ruttonjee Hospital after being knocked down by a double-decker bus in Hennessy Road, Wan Chai, around 9.50am. The woman was discharged after treatment.
