Growing group wants energetic tree sales staff

Growing with the business takes a literal turn when you investigate the potential of selling trees for a firm that is branching out in Hong Kong.

Touchwood is a financial services company that sells plots of agarwood-producing trees from plantations in Thailand.

Regional sales and marketing manager for Asia-Pacific, Brent Clegg, said: 'We purchase land from the Thai government and that land is leased to clients with trees on and we grow the trees up to harvest.' The agarwood is harvested and sold on behalf of the client after six years.

Agarwood is the precious, resinous heartwood of Aquilaria trees, which are internationally protected. To reduce poaching, only agarwood with a certificate of origin can be sold on the open market. Touchwood's trees have the certificate and individual numbers.

Valued for its use in perfumes and incense sticks, agarwood has also been used for medicinal purposes.

Touchwood is seeking a senior sales executive to sell plots of agarwood-producing plantations.

Reporting to a sales manager, the appointee will contact prospective clients provided by the company and source clients.

'We expect someone to come in the morning and report on the previous day's activities, give a brief report of what they intend to do during each day and then leave the office,' Mr Clegg said of why energy and an entrepreneurial attitude were more important than years of experience.

The company will add five more sales executives and one sales manager in Hong Kong in the coming months.
