Foreign domestic helpers - of which there are more than 236,000, 97 per cent from the Philippines and Indonesia - are the only workers in the city for whom minimum pay has been set. The most recent increase, of HK$80 a month, was in May.
Permanent Secretary for Economic Development and Labour Paul Tang Kwok-wai has said the government is studying a minimum wage for handicapped workers.
