Should historic graves get more protection?

I could not agree more with your article 'Botched renovation a blight on resting place of heroes who shaped our destiny' (May 2).

Recently, I took my children to the Hong Kong Cemetery as it is one of the few places where you can still see and learn what it was really like in the early days of Hong Kong. I asked my nine and seven-year-old girls to write down any details of interesting people or ships and we would then go home and look them up on the internet. They were fascinated and began writing down the inscriptions from some of the larger memorials.

After 20 minutes they both commented that the names were misspelled and it seemed someone had painted incorrect details. Let my seven-year-old have the paintbrush. She could do a better job.

The people who died striving to create Hong Kong deserve better.
