Hong Kong triathletes claimed two gold medals on the opening day of the Subic Bay ITU Triathlon Asian Cup in the Philippines yesterday. Ivan Lo led the junior boys' sprint distance event from start to finish and crossed the line in one hour, three minutes and nine seconds, almost two minutes clear of the second-place finisher. The junior competitors raced the sprint distance of 750m swim, 20km bike ride and 5km run. Lo, 17, is one of a team of five Hong Kong triathletes contesting the Philippine event, which is part of the ITU Asian Cup Series. Leanne Szeto, also 17, completed a wire-to-wire victory in the junior girls' race yesterday with a finishing time of 1:11:53, for a victory of almost two minutes over her nearest rivals.
