I got back into shape naturally, image heroine Myolie Wu insists

She was a heroine to every normal-shaped woman in town when she plumped up for the TVB serial To Grow With Love, but since then Myolie Wu Hang-yee has trimmed down and, worse, sold herself to a weight-loss slimming campaign. After adding about 20kg for the role, the 1999 Miss Hong Kong seemed to have dropped the extra weight just as fast. After she lost the best and favourite character awards to Charmaine Sheh Shi-man at last year's TVB Anniversary Awards, some folks have expressed mixed reactions about her whole show and whether the weight gain was merely intended as a marketing campaign? Others even wondered if she is now suffering from bulimia.
However, Wu insists all her efforts were for her art and the slimming was natural and healthy. 'I expected all these criticisms when I took the project,' Wu said at a mi-tu fashion show. 'I weighed 152 pounds [69kg ] at my highest peak and now I am at 110 pounds [50kg], but I weighed even less [48kg] when I competed in the Miss Hong Kong pageant [in 1999].'
She says her beauty company sponsor did help her drop the pounds a bit faster but insists her own genetics played just as vital a part. 'My doctor told me I have a high metabolic rate so I naturally burn fat quicker. I do love to eat but I eat less junk food now and more fruit and fresh food like fish and sashimi.'
