Two arrested for killing six family members
Police have arrested two men suspected of murdering six members of a family, including four children, in Guangdong's Zhaoqing city on Saturday, local officials said.
The suspects, both surnamed Deng, were aged 21 and 22. One had been receiving financial aid to study from the victims' family for at least a year, police said yesterday.
They said the suspects found themselves in trouble after losing most of their money in illegal pyramid selling and drug-taking.
Before committing the crime they investigated the work schedule of the house owner, who was identified only as Mr Zhang, and chose a time when he was out. The mistress of the house was tricked into opening the door and forced to open the safe. The suspects took 1,000 yuan, HK$300, five bank books, about 10 pieces of gold jewellery and a mobile phone.
They stabbed to death Mr Zhang's wife, 32, his six-year-old daughter and four-year-old son, his 60-year-old mother-in-law, and his wife's nephew and niece, five and 16.
Chen Jihong , a section head with the Zhaoqing Public Security Bureau, said Mr Zhang had found his family members' bodies at about 6pm on Saturday after he returned from his garden business nearby.
'We are still questioning the suspects for further details,' Mr Chen said.
