Chance for artists to shine

Young people selected to take part in the Bloomberg Emerging Artists Programme will be given HK$100,000 cash, a monthly allowance and a studio to create a community art project.

The scheme, launched by the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation (YAF) in association with the financial news service Bloomberg, aims to give young people from different backgrounds a chance to display their artistic talents.

The programme is held every three months, sponsoring one artist each time. Participants can choose any form of visual arts, including photography, video recording or painting.

The HK$100,000 cash award is for buying materials, and the artist will get a monthly allowance.

In addition, they will have free access to a small studio and office. Their final project will be presented at a public exhibition.

Aspiring artists who are Hong Kong residents and aged 18 or above can apply. Applicants have to submit a list of their recent work, a curriculum vitae, and a brief outline of their project to the YAF before June 4.

Only one applicant will be selected. But Venus Tong of YAF said it's a long-term programme and they will keep sponsoring talented young artists.

Bloomberg has sponsored art activities in the United States and Europe.

This is the first art project supported by the company in Hong Kong.
