O'Young hoping for a perfect Mother's Day gift

Darryl O'Young will be hoping to provide the perfect Mother's Day gift when he takes part in round three of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the Circuit de Catalunya outside Barcelona, Spain, tomorrow.

Both parents will be cheering him on - father Samuel and mother Cathy - who made the trip to Europe to lend support. And the Canadian-born racer is keeping his fingers crossed he will have a successful outing just as he did last year on Mother's Day when he won both his races on his way to overall victory in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia championship.

'I try to win for my mum every Mother's Day even though I've only managed this a couple of times before. I remember last year being a double victory for her,' said O'Young. 'My mom has been to many races in my career, but less as my racing takes me further away from her.

'I wouldn't say my mother is a huge racing fan, but she was definitely used to the idea of motorsport which was brought on by my father. My father gave my mum the chance to compete as a hobby for a couple races, in which she managed to roll two cars, a Mini Cooper and then a Datsun 510!'

O'Young, who races for Schnabl Engineering - LKM - Team Jebsen, faces fresh challenges as he competes on the upgraded 4.627km track in a support race to the Spanish Formula One Grand Prix.
