'Wonder Woman' tragedy a giggle for actress Fiona Sit
It's supposed to be an emotional tragic melodrama about a woman's struggle with life, career and family. However, Fiona Sit Hoi-kei (below), who co-stars in the new film Wonder Woman - based on author Anita Leung Fung-yee's novel of 10 years in a Hong Kong married woman's tumultuous life - actually found the first edit of the movie kind of funny. She blurted the comment at the production's wrap dinner on Tuesday at the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel and immediately was asked to explain how she could find a story about someone losing her career, husband and son such a laugh?
'Let me explain,' Sit demanded as reporters pounced. 'All the tragic plots happened to [Gigi Leung Wing-kei's] character, like losing her son during the Sars outbreak, being betrayed by her lover, etc, etc. But my character was not so serious and more happy go lucky. That's why I thought it was funny. The real wonder woman was Gigi's role, whereas mine was just a foolish girl cheated by her boyfriend.'
Sit added the movie was dedicated to all women and admitted that it was tough being a woman in Hong Kong. 'Both the main characters and director [Barbara Wong Chun-chun] are female and sometimes when we watched the playback during the shootings, we would end up crying too.'
