Ghei takes charge in soggy Macau
Indian Gaurav Ghei is in the driving seat with a two-shot lead after heavy rain forced the Macau Open to be suspended yesterday.
Ghei had just pushed himself to the top of the leaderboard when the third round was halted at 1.40pm with 57 of the 67 players who made the cut earlier in the morning still out on the rain-sodden Macau Golf and Country Club course.
After waiting nearly three hours and with no let-up in the rain, organisers called off play for the day. They will pray the weather improves today as they bid to complete all 72 holes.
'We need the Macau weather gods to be kind to us. The forecast is for more showers,' said David Parkin, tournament director, yesterday. 'We will keep the same groups for the fourth round as that gives us the best chance to complete all 72 holes.'
'There is nothing anyone can do about the weather. It is not in anybody's control, but I believe there is still a lot of golf to play,' said Ghei, who still has seven holes left to play in the third round.
'I just have to keep plugging away. It might be a better day tomorrow and we might finish all four rounds.'
