on style, she rules

I'm desperate for some black patent Giselle shoes by Kate Spade, size 10. I've looked in the IFC store near my office but apparently they're from last winter. I found them on the Kate Spade website but only in red, which is not going to suit me for work. Any ideas gratefully received.

Kate-ing on Thin Ice, Mid-Levels

The Dictator rules: Wow, that's dedication bordering on obsession. (And I like it.) But before you get too big for your britches, let the master show you how it's done. We went to our inside source at Globalluxe, Kate Spade's regional partner, and found you the very last pair in Hong Kong, sitting in their warehouse. Not only that, the shoes have been transferred to the Kate Spade IFC Mall store (shop 2083, tel: 3188 1928) and are waiting for pick-up under the name 'Dictator'. (Dear readers, this is a true story but all you size 10s out there, don't even think about trying to take Kate-ing's rare shoes. By the time this is published, she and the shoes will be long gone.)

We are doing a surprise wedding shower for my friend at a hotel and we're all wearing cute PJs or nighties. But where can I get some?

Lady of the Night, Admiralty

The Dictator: Be careful - in some cultures 'getting some' has an entirely different meaning. Or maybe that's exactly why you need presentable sleepwear, you little minx. It's simple: go to a lingerie shop and look for the larger items. No, not plus-size bras and undies - nightwear. Calvin Klein (G/F, 18 Wellington Street, Central, tel: 2526 8113) has a limited but cute selection of nightgowns (about HK$620) and pyjamas, with tops (HK$320) and bottoms (HK$320) sold separately. We really like the Princesse Tam Tam line sold at Private Shop (shop B10, The Landmark, Central, tel: 3126 2257), ranging from little slip nightgowns to singlets with matching shorts and tops with longer bottoms (from HK$769 to HK$1,299). Also stylish but still affordable, Elle Macpherson Intimates (Lane Crawford, IFC Mall, Central, tel: 2118 7777) carries a few pretty sleepwear must-haves, including an aqua-coloured camisole (HK$500) with pyjama bottoms (HK$550) and a whispy night chemise in mesh with ruffles and satin ribbon (HK$950). Other brands to look for in the Lane Crawford lingerie department are Lala Rose, Kristina Ti and Cosabella.

I have a strange question. I've seen pictures somewhere of Angelina Jolie with these great sunglasses that look like the sides are cut out. It's hard to explain but the frames look like plastic and they're quite big shades. Is there any chance you know what I'm talking about?

In the Dark, Happy Valley

The Dictator: Well, from that description, she could have been wearing an arts and crafts project made by one of her growing brood of children. So we turned to the internet (you should try it some time). Sites such as TeamSugar.com feature this kind of thing, and ask: 'Who wore it better?' in a comparison between Angelina Jolie and Gwen Stefani. We voted for the former. Are you itching for the answer or already firing up that internet connection? They are Tom Ford's 'Whitney' sunglasses (HK$3,280).

In case you wanted the correct terminology, they are called 'cut-away lenses' on the official TomFord.

com site. Tom Ford Eyewear is sold at Lane Crawford (try the Pacific Place store, Admiralty, tel: 2118 2999), Puyi Optical (shop 16, G/F, Central Building, 1 Pedder Street, Central, tel: 2522 1288), and Harvey Nichols (The Landmark, tel: 3695 3388). But don't just settle on those. We saw plenty of similar styles worth trying on, even if it's only to laugh at how ridiculous you look.
